Insulation and air sealing

Insulation is the least visible thing we install and usually the one with the largest measurable effect on a bill. It is also what should happen before anyone sizes a new air conditioner, not after.

Air sealing comes first

Insulation slows heat transfer; it does not stop air movement. An attic with unsealed penetrations and a leaky hatch exchanges conditioned air continuously, and blowing more insulation over that buys much less than it should. Seal, then insulate, in that order, every time.

Most local attics are far below standard

Housing stock from the 1950s through the 1980s was built to a fraction of current code, and decades of settling and disturbance made it worse. Existing depth is measurable in minutes and tells most of the story.

Do this before replacing the HVAC

A sealed, insulated envelope lowers the load, which means replacement equipment can be smaller and cheaper. Done the other way round, you pay for capacity that the insulation then makes unnecessary. This sequencing is the core of how we quote whole-property work.

Common questions

Insulation, what to expect

Do you give a written scope before work starts?
Always. The proposal lists equipment or materials, what is included, what is excluded and the payment schedule. Nothing starts on a verbal.
What happens if you find something unexpected?
Older homes hide things, undersized panels, failed ducting, non-permitted prior work, rodent damage in the attic. When we find something, we show you what is there and price the fix as a written change order before continuing.
Do you talk about payback periods?
We will talk about what drives payback, your usage, your rate schedule, the condition of the house. We will not hand you a number that depends on utility rates nobody can predict. Any contractor who gives you a confident payback figure is guessing with your money.
