HVAC repair and diagnostics

Most air conditioning failures happen in the first genuinely hot week of the year, when the system runs continuously for the first time in months and a marginal component finally gives up.

Diagnose, then quote

Low refrigerant is a symptom, not a fault. A system that is low is leaking, and topping it up without finding the leak means paying again next season. We find the cause and tell you what a proper fix takes, including when that answer is inconvenient.

When repair stops making sense

On a system past a certain age, with a failed compressor, or still running R-22, repair cost approaches replacement cost while buying very little remaining life. We will say so plainly, and we will also say when a system has years left and someone else is overselling you a replacement.

The failures we see most

Capacitors, contactors, condenser fan motors, clogged condensate drains, seized blowers, refrigerant leaks at the service valves. Most are same-visit fixes when the part is standard.

Common questions

HVAC Repair, what to expect

Do you give a written scope before work starts?
Always. The proposal lists equipment or materials, what is included, what is excluded and the payment schedule. Nothing starts on a verbal.
What happens if you find something unexpected?
Older homes hide things, undersized panels, failed ducting, non-permitted prior work, rodent damage in the attic. When we find something, we show you what is there and price the fix as a written change order before continuing.
Do you talk about payback periods?
We will talk about what drives payback, your usage, your rate schedule, the condition of the house. We will not hand you a number that depends on utility rates nobody can predict. Any contractor who gives you a confident payback figure is guessing with your money.
