Load calculation before equipment selection
A Manual J load calculation accounts for the actual building: insulation levels, window area and orientation, air leakage, ceiling height, duct condition. Two identical floor plans in Encino and Palm Desert need different equipment. We run the calculation first and specify from the result, which is why our quote sometimes names a smaller system than the one you asked about.
Oversizing is worse than undersizing
An oversized air conditioner cools the air quickly, satisfies the thermostat, and shuts off before it has removed any humidity. Short cycling, uneven rooms, higher bills, shorter equipment life. Bigger is not a safety margin, it is a recurring cost.
The ducts decide whether the rating is real
A high-efficiency system pushing air through leaky, undersized 1960s ducting never delivers its label. Duct inspection is part of every replacement quote we write, and when the ducts are the real problem we will say so before you spend on equipment.

- Always. The proposal lists equipment or materials, what is included, what is excluded and the payment schedule. Nothing starts on a verbal.
- What happens if you find something unexpected?
- Older homes hide things, undersized panels, failed ducting, non-permitted prior work, rodent damage in the attic. When we find something, we show you what is there and price the fix as a written change order before continuing.
- Do you talk about payback periods?
- We will talk about what drives payback, your usage, your rate schedule, the condition of the house. We will not hand you a number that depends on utility rates nobody can predict. Any contractor who gives you a confident payback figure is guessing with your money.
